dṛṣtistridhā ramasthāyisañcāripratibandhanā /
ṣaṭtriṃśadbhedavidhurā rasajā tatra cāṣṭadhā //
Gaze is threefold, tied to the rasas, enduring states, and transitory states; / [the gaze] consists of thirty-six divisions, and that arising from the rasas is of eight kinds.
