sthānāt sthānaṃ daśaguṇamekasmādguṇyate sthale /
tato 'ṣṭādaśame bhāge parārdhamabhidhīyate //
From place to place on the surface [of computation], each is multiplied tenfold from the one before; / then, at the eighteenth place, a parārdha is declared.
