gṛjjalābhyāṃ smṛtaṃ vāhyaṃ bhāvaśuddherathāntaraṃ /
ubhayena śuciryastu sa śucirnetaraḥ śuciḥ //
External [purity] is known to be through earth and water; internal is from the purification of disposition.
He who is pure in both respects is truly pure; no other is pure.
