guṇā vartanta ity eva yo 'vatiṣṭhati neṅgate /
mānāvamānamitrāritulyastyāgī sa nirguṇaḥ //
He who stands firm, thinking only, "The gunas operate," and is not shaken, / equal in honor and dishonor, to friend and foe, renouncing [all undertakings]—he is beyond the gunas.
