lakṣaṇaṃ vāsudevādinavakasya vadāmi te /
dakṣiṇordhve gadā vāme vāmordhve cakramuttamaṃ //

I shall tell you the characteristics of the nine [deities] beginning with Vāsudeva:
In the upper right [hand] is a mace; in the left, in the upper left [hand], an excellent discus.
