japeyurjāpinaḥ saṅkhyaṃ(1) mantramanye tu saṃhitāṃ(2) /
paṭheyurbrāhmaṇāḥ śāntiṃ svaśākhāvedapāragāḥ //
The reciters should recite the prescribed number of mantras, while others [recite] the saṃhitā; / the brāhmaṇas who have mastered the Vedas of their own Vedic branches should chant the propitiatory verses.
