tataḥ saptadaśe jātaḥ satyavatyāṃ parāśarāt /
cakre vedataroḥ śākhā dṛṣṭvā puṃso 'lpamedhasaḥ //
21. Then in the seventeenth, He became Vyasa, the son of *Parasara* and *Satyavati*; and seeing that men were of poor intellect, He divided the Tree of Vedas into many branches.
