ekadā nirgatāṃ gehādduhantīṃ niśi gāṃ pathi /
sarpo 'daśat padā spṛṣṭaḥ kṛpaṇāṃ kālacoditaḥ //

9. Once during the night she went out of the house to milk the cow; on her path lay a serpent on which she set her foot, and which, prompted by fate, bit the helpless woman (and she died of it).
