vayaṃ purā śrī-mada-naṣṭa-dṛṣṭayo jigīṣayāsyā itaretara-spṛdhaḥ /
ghnantaḥ prajāḥ svā ati-nirghṛṇāḥ prabho mṛtyuṃ puras tvāvigaṇayya durmadāḥ //

12. "At first we lost our vision, through the pride of fortune and in our desire to conquer this earth we vied with one another mercilessly killing our own subjects and madly proud we did not think of death or Thyself.
