kṛtaṃ tretā dvāparaṃ ca kaliś ceti catur-yugam /
divyair dvādaśabhir varṣaiḥ sāvadhānaṃ nirūpitam //
18. Maitreya said:—The yugas are four, viz, Krita, Treta, Dwapara and Kali and they consist of twelve thousand years of celestial measure including the transition periods between every two yugas.
