mahat-tattvād vikurvāṇād bhagavad-vīrya-sambhavāt /
kriyā-śaktir ahaṅkāras tri-vidhaḥ samapadyata //

23. Out of the Mahat-Tattva which originated from the energy of the Supreme Lord, when it began to undergo modification, was produced the Ahankara of three kinds endowed with power to do active work.
