Bhagavatapurana 4.29.30

4.29.30

kṣut-parīto yathā dīnaḥ sārameyo gṛhaṃ gṛham /
caran vindati yad-diṣṭaṃ daṇḍam odanam eva vā //

30—31. Like a hungry dog which goes from door to door to receive a stroke or a morsel of food as ordained by destiny, the Jīva with his heart full of desires wanders through ways high and low, above, below, or in the middle, reaping, as destined, pleasure or pain.
