saudarya-sampraśna-samartha-vārtayā mātrā ca mātṛ-ṣvasṛbhiś ca sādaram /
dattāṃ saparyāṃ varam āsanaṃ ca sā nādatta pitrāpratinanditā satī //
8. Not being welcomed by her father, Satī did not accept (and was not pleased with) the honour done or the seat offered to her with great affection by her mother and her mother's sisters, and with their enquiries about her welfare in a manner worthy of sisters.
