atha vṛṣala-rāja-paṇiḥ puruṣa-paśor asṛg-āsavena devīṃ bhadra-kālīṃ yakṣyamāṇas tad-abhimantritam asim ati-karāla-niśitam upādade //
16. Then the chief of the Sudra highwaymen wishing to propitiate Bhadrakali with the drink of the blood of a human victim, raised the dreadfully sharp sword on which the mantra of the goddess had been pronounced.
