na jātu kāmaḥ kāmānāmupabhogena śāṃyati /
haviṣā kṛṣṇavartmeva bhūya evābhivardhate //

14. Never does desire subside through enjoyment of its objects, just as fire does not subside with the offerings thrown into it; on the other hand it grows more intense.
