trirātraṃ daśarātraṃ vā śāvamāśaucamucyate /
ūnadvivarṣa ubhayoḥ sūtakaṃ mātureva hi //
Impurity due to death is declared to be three nights or ten nights.
When a child is under two years of age, [it lasts for] both; birth impurity, however, is only for the mother.
