yo vātmanīha na gurau na ca bhṛtyavarge dīne dayāṃ na kurute na ca mitrakārye /
kiṃ tasya jīvitaphalenamanuṣyaloke kāko 'pi jīvati ciraṃ ca baliṃ ca bhuṅkte //

He who in this world shows no compassion toward himself, nor toward a guru, nor toward his servants, / nor toward the wretched, nor acts for the sake of a friend—what is the fruit of his life in the world of men? Even a crow lives for a long time and eats funeral offerings.
