brahmovāca /
brahman bhādrapade māsi śuklāṣṭamyāmupoṣitaḥ /
dūrvāṃ saurīṃ gaṇeśaṃ ca phalapuṣpaiḥ śivaṃ yajet //
The glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa, chapter 131.
Brahmā said:
O brāhmaṇa, fasting on the bright eighth day in the month of Bhādrapada,
one should worship Dūrvā, the daughter of the Sun, Gaṇeśa, and Śiva with fruits and flowers,
