kathaṃ rudraṃ suraiḥ sārdhamabravīdvai hariḥ purā /
purāṇaṃ gāruḍaṃ sāraṃ brūhi brahmanmahārthakam //
Vyāsa said: / How did Hari formerly declare the essential Garuḍa Purāṇa / to Rudra along with the gods? Tell [it], O Brahman, [which is] of great significance!
