āsyādvai brāhmaṇā jātā bāhubhyāṃ kṣattriyāḥ smṛtāḥ /
ūrubhyāṃ tu viśaḥ sṛṣṭāḥ śūdraḥ padybhāma jāyata //
From his mouth the brāhmaṇas were born, from his arms the kṣatriyas are recorded, / from his thighs the vaiśyas were created, and the śūdra was born from his feet.
