svakulaṃ pīḍayetpetaḥ paracchidreṇa pīḍayet /
jīvansa dṛśyate snehī mṛto duṣṭatvamāpnuyāt //
The glorious Viṣṇu said:
A ghost afflicts his own family, he afflicts through another's vulnerability; / while living he is seen to be affectionate, but dead he attains wickedness.
