bhrātṛdhrugbrahmahā goghnaḥ surāpo gurutalpagaḥ /
kulamārgaṃ parityajya hyanṛtoktau sadā rataḥ /
hartā hemnaśca bhūmeśca sa predṛ //
One who injures a brother, a slayer of a brāhmaṇa, a cow-killer, a drinker of liquor, one who violates the bed of a guru, / one who abandons the family path and is ever devoted to speaking untruth, / and a stealer of gold and land—he [becomes a preta].'
