na cāsau kurute yāvat preta eva sa vahnimān /
dvādaśāhe tataḥ kāryaṃ sāgnikena sapiṇḍanam //
At present, for one who maintains a sacred fire, sapindification must be done on the twelfth day; / as long as he does not perform it, that fire-possessor remains a ghost; / therefore, by one who maintains a sacred fire, sapindification should be performed on the twelfth day.
