yoṣitaḥ puruṣasyāpi piṇḍaṃ preteti nirvapet /
sāpiṇḍye tu kṛte tasya pretaśabdo nivartate //
Whether for a woman or for a man, one should offer the piṇḍa [saying] 'to the preta'; / but once sāpiṇḍya has been performed, the designation 'preta' ceases for that person.
