yathā surāṇāṃ pravaro janārdano yathāyudhānāṃ pravaraḥ sudarśanam /
yathāśvamedhaḥ pravaraḥ kratūnāṃ chinneṣu bhakteṣu tathaiva rudraḥ //
Just as Janārdana is the foremost among the gods, just as Sudarśana is the foremost among weapons, / just as the horse sacrifice is the foremost among rites, even so Rudra is foremost among devotees whose devotion is broken.
