sajjanānsaumyarūpeṇa dhāraṇāddharmanāmakaḥ /
sa eva sūryaputrobhūdyamasaṃjñāmavāpa saḥ /
pāpināṃ śikṣakattvātsa yama ityucyate budhaiḥ //
Because of sustaining good people in a gentle form, he is named Dharma; / he indeed became the son of Sūrya and acquired the name Yama. / Because he punishes sinners, he is called Yama by the wise.
