1.18.1
The glorious and great Garuḍapurāṇa — 18
Sūta said:
I shall declare the worship of Mṛtyuñjaya as spoken by Garuḍa to Kaśyapa,
preceded by the extraction of mantras, holy, considered to comprise all the gods.
1.18.2
First uttering the syllable Oṃ, immediately after it the syllable Juṃ, / and the third with a visarga [saḥ]—this destroys death and poverty.
1.18.3
It is the armour of Śiva, Viṣṇu, the Sun, the Goddess, and the rest, accomplishing all things, / the great three-syllable mantra of Amṛteśa, whose worship is equal [to all others]. / Through its recitation men become free from death and released from all sins.
1.18.4
From a hundred recitations one gains the fruit of the Vedas, of sacrifice, and of pilgrimage places; / from chanting it a hundred and eight times at the three twilights, one conquers death and enemies.
1.18.5
One should meditate on Amṛteśvara seated on a white lotus, granting boons and fearlessness with [two] hands, / and with two hands [holding] a jar of nectar.
1.18.6
One should meditate on the goddess Amṛtā upon his lap, speaking sweet words, / holding a pitcher in her right hand and a lotus in her left hand.
1.18.7
One should chant it eight thousand times at the three twilights continuously for one month; / it bestows peace, destroying old age, death, severe disease, and enemies.
1.18.8
Invocation, installation, retention, bringing near, seating, / water for the feet, sipping water, bathing, arghya, a garland, anointing,
1.18.9
a lamp, garment, ornament, food-offering, drink, fanning, / metrics, mudrās, recitation, meditation, priestly fee, oblation, praise,
1.18.10
instrumental music, movement, dance, the application of nyāsa, circumambulation, / prostration, the mantra-bed, adoration, and dismissal—
1.18.11
the worship along with the six ancillary limbs and other rites has been declared in proper order. / He who knows what has issued from the mouth of the Supreme Lord is indeed a true worshipper.
1.18.12
At first, worship of the arghya-vessel, striking it with the astra-mantra, / purification with the kavaca-mantra, and then nectarisation;
1.18.13
worship of the Support Śakti and others, breath-control on the seat, / then one should perform purification of the seat, and then imagine [the body] through drying up and the rest.
1.18.14
One should perform nyāsa of the hands and limbs, [visualising] oneself in divine form; / thereafter one should worship oneself as the form of light from the lotus of the heart.
1.18.15
One should cast a radiant flower upon an image or an altar / for the sake of invocation and the worship of the doors, and the worship begins with the Support Śakti.
1.18.16
Effecting the divine presence, worship of the retinue, / and the worship of the six limbs must indeed be performed by the wise.
1.18.17
Dharma and the others, Indra and the others with their weapons, the retinue, / the yugas, Vedas, and muhūrtas—this worship grants enjoyment and liberation.
1.18.18
At the outset one should worship the Mothers, the gaṇas, Nandin and Gaṅgā, / and at the threshold one should first worship Mahākāla and Yamunā.
1.18.19
"Oṃ, to Amṛteśvara, oṃ, obeisance to Bhairava"; / likewise, "Oṃ juṃ saḥ, obeisance to the Sun."
1.18.20
Thus one should worship Śiva, Kṛṣṇa, Brahmā, Gaṇeśa, / Caṇḍikā, Sarasvatī, Mahālakṣmī, and the rest.
1.18.20.p1
Thus ends the eighteenth chapter, named "The Worship of Amṛteśa and Mṛtyuñjaya," in the Ācārakāṇḍa of the first section of the first part in the glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa.
