The glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa — [Chapter] 13.
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: / Thus praised by his own son, the blessed Madhusūdana, an ocean of compassion, / spoke with a voice deep as a thundercloud:
3.13.2
'O Brahmā, create these gods gradually through my grace; / just as at the previous moment, create everything in the same way, O great Lord!
3.13.3
There is no purpose of your own through it; create it for my delight.' / Thus spoken to by Hari, Brahmā, having praised Hari, the Supreme,
3.13.4
set his mind on performing creation, pleasing Mādhava. / Brahmā, whose nature is the Mahat principle, [created] Vāyu, the presiding deity of the jīvas.
3.13.6
In the beginning, O Garuḍa, he created [him], and he is the self of the Puruṣa. / Then from his right hand [he created] Brahmāṇī and Bhāratī; / / (13.5) / he created those two highly fortunate ones, rulers of the Unmanifest. / From his left hand [came] the true son, Fire, whose nature is the Mahat principle.
3.13.7
From the right hand of Brahmā came Hara, whose nature is the ego principle. / In the beginning Śeṣa was born, and immediately after him, Garuḍa.
3.13.8
Born immediately after him was Rudra; thus the lord created. / Ten years after his own birth, the great lord Brahmā
3.13.9
brought forth Vāyu; a year later, the lord / gave birth to Gāyatrī, after the birth of Vāyu.
3.13.10
A year later, the lord created Bhāratī; / after Bhāratī, Śeṣa after a thousand divine years.
3.13.11
Immediately after, Garuḍa came into being; after that, / after a thousand divine years, he likewise created Rudra.
3.13.12
After Śeṣa, the lotus-seated great lord / created the goddess Vāruṇī after ten years.
3.13.13
After Garuḍa, the lord created the goddess Sauparṇī, / and after ten years, he created Pārvatī in the same manner.
3.13.14
After Pārvatī [he created] the Moon, regulator of the mind principle; / then, after ten years, he created Indra,
3.13.15
presiding deity of the right arm of Parameṣṭhin; / and after ten years, the lord created Śacī.
3.13.16
After Indra, thirty years later, / from his left arm he created Kāma, presiding over the mind principle.
3.13.17
Ten years after him, the great lord / brought forth the goddess Rati, who was born next, the wife of Kāma.
3.13.18
He indeed is proclaimed to be the presiding deity of Kāma as well. / After the emergence of the effect, Brahmā [created] the prāṇa consisting of ego;
3.13.19
after ten years, he then fashioned the nose; / five years after that, [he created] the wife of the nose,
3.13.20
the left nostril, Brahmā, the grandfather of the worlds, fashioned. / After the ego principle, Brahmā [created] Bṛhaspati with knowledge,
3.13.21
and he fashioned [him] after a pair of years and five years [seven years]. / Five years later, he fashioned his wife Tārā.
3.13.22
After the Guru, twenty-five [years] later, / the omnipresent Brahmā fashioned Svāyambhuva Manu with his mind.
3.13.23
Five years later, he fashioned Śatarūpā; / after Śatarūpā, twenty years and days later,
3.13.24
Dakṣa, of the nature of a disciple, was born from the right thumb of the lord; / and five years later, from the left thumb, the four-faced
3.13.25
Brahmā created Prasūti for the sake of creation, with great devotion. / After Dakṣa, twenty-five [years] later, Brahmā
3.13.26
fashioned Aniruddha from the joint of the middle finger; / five years later, the unborn Lord created
3.13.27
his wife named Virāj from the joint of the middle finger. / After Aniruddha, a hundred years later,
3.13.28
he fashioned the Pravaha wind from the joint of the little finger; / and ten years later, the lord fashioned Pravāhī.
3.13.29
And from the joint of the little finger, without doubt, Brahmā [created] Vāmadeva
after Pravaha, after one hundred years.
3.13.30
He fashioned Yama from his back after eight years;
from the very same [place] the great lord [fashioned] his wife, the goddess Śāmalā.
3.13.31
After Yama, after thirty years,
he created the Moon from his right ear, as the ruler of the element of hearing.
3.13.32
After nine years the lord created Rohiṇī;
and from the left ear Garuḍa, the presiding deity of the left ear.
3.13.33
After the Moon, after twenty years,
Brahmā fashioned well the Sun, the deity of the right eye.
3.13.34
From the left eye the lord created Saṃjñā after six years;
after the Sun, after one hundred years, Brahmā
3.13.35
fashioned Varuṇa from the sense of taste, as its presiding deity.
After twenty years, from that very sense the lord,
3.13.36
Brahmā, fashioned Gaṅgā, the deity of the sense of taste.
After Varuṇa, after ten years,
3.13.37
from his lap Brahmā created Nārada, beloved of the Blessed One.
After Nārada, after sixty years,
3.13.38
Brahmā the lord created Agni from the sense of touch.
Then, after five years, as the presiding deity of speech,
3.13.39
Brahmā fashioned Svāhā; they call her the deity of mantras.
After Agni, O best of birds, [he created] Bhṛgu, the best of divine seers;
3.13.40
after ten years he fashioned [him] from the space between the eyebrows.
After one year he fashioned the wife of Bhṛgu.
3.13.41
After Bhṛgu, after one hundred years,
the lord Brahmā himself begot Kaśyapa with his mind.
3.13.42
After one year the lord fashioned Aditi.
After Kaśyapa, after ten years, [he created] Atri.
3.13.43

Brahmā begot Bharadvāja, and Vasiṣṭha after him.
3.13.44

3.13.46
After ten years Vaivasvata Manu came to be.
After Manu, after one hundred years, was born
3.13.47
the fortunate Viṣvaksena, endowed with great strength, the son of Vāyu.
In the fourteenth year after that, the Gaṇapa of the Lord came to be.
3.13.48
His next-born, O best of birds, after eight years,
Dhanapa came to be then, and his wife in the next year.
3.13.49
After Viṣvaksena, after ten years,
the lotus-seated [Brahmā] created Jaya and the other devotees of the Blessed One.
3.13.50
After Jaya and the others, Brahmā [created] Vallā and the other ritual deities;
and after one hundred years he created the mount of Śiva.
3.13.51
After the ritual deities, after thirty years,
Brahmā created Parjanya, the presiding deity of mantras and yantras.
3.13.52
After Parjanya, after ten years,
Brahmā begot Puṣkara, the presiding deity of the principle of action.
3.13.53
Thus Brahmā created by my grace, O king of birds.
Knowing this, one attains liberation; in no other way whatsoever.
