gaṅgāyamunayormadhye pṛthivyā jaghanaṃ smṛtam
prayāgaṃ rājaśārdūla triṣu lokeṣu viśrutam
tataḥ puṇyatamaṃ nāsti triṣu lokeṣu bhārata //

It is said that the site of the confluence of the Ganges and the Yamunâ forms the middle or the waist of the earth. This Prayâgâ tîrtha is known throughout the three worlds.—19.
