somatīrthaṃ mahāpuṇyaṃ mahāpātakanāśanam
snānamātreṇa rājendra puruṣāṃstārayecchatam
tasmātsarvaprayatnena tatra snānaṃ samācaret //

Mârkaṇḍeya said:—The thousands of tîrthas that I have heard described in the Brahma Purâṇa by Brahmâ, are sacred, purifying and givers of emancipation. There is one Somatîrtha which is the most sacred and the dispeller of all sins, where by mere bathing one gets the deliverance of hundreds of his ancestors; one should, therefore, unavoidably bathe in it.—1-2.
