evamuktastapastepe yamastīvraṃ mahāyaśāḥ
gokarṇatīrthe vairāgyāt phalapattrānilāśanaḥ //
On getting no redress from his father, Yama went to Gokarna tîrtha, and began to practise severe penances by merely living on fruits, leaves and air. After practising penances for one hundred thousand years, Lord Śiva appeared and asked him to seek a boon.—18-19.
