*ṛṣaya ūcuḥ
yadidaṃ bhārataṃ varṣaṃ yasmin svāyambhuvādayaḥ
caturdaśaiva manavaḥ prajāsargaṃ sasarjire //
The sages said:—We wish to hear from you an account of this Bhâratavarṣa, which was peopled by Svâyambhuva and the rest of the fourteen Manus. O Blessed one! do tell us about their creation.—1-2.
