yena bhāgīrathī gaṅgā tapaḥ kṛtvāvatāritā //
Once upon a time, the sixty thousand sons of Prabhâ were reduced to ashes by the Sage Kapila—an incarnation of Viṣṇu—while they were digging the earth in search of the Aśvamedha horse. The wife of Asamañjasa gave birth to Aṃśu. Dilîpa was the son of Aṃśu, and Bhagîratha, who brought the mother Ganges to the earth after practising great penances, was the son of Dilîpa.—43-44.
