saptamī tvanugā tāsāṃ dakṣiṇena bhagīratham
tasmādbhāgīrathī sā vai praviṣṭā dakṣiṇodadhim //

Nalinî, Hlâdinî and Pâvanî flow in the East, Sîtâ, Sindhu and Chakṣu in the West, and the seventh followed the King Bhagîratha to the South. Hence the name Bhâgîrathî which falls into the Dakṣiṇa Samudra (southern waters) washing the Himavarṣa. Seven holy rivers trace their origin from the Bindu Sarovara.—40-42.
