The previous Lokapâlas are born in the house of their late compeers. In their absence, the latter take their place in this way; by mutual succession they continue till the destruction of the world. 88000 of these Ṛiṣis, who live the life of a householder, remain on the Dakṣina (south) path of the sun till the end of the world. I have thus enumerated those Ṛiṣis whose funeral ceremonies have been performed. According to the usages of the world (to stand as examples) these Ṛiṣis (Siddhas) have passed through the experience of birth, feelings of like and dislike, lustful passions, sexual and other worldly enjoyment, and death.—101-105.
