The groups of the seven couples (1) Devas, (2) Ṛiṣis, (3) Gandharvas, (4) Apsarâs, (5) Nâgas, (6) charioteers and (7) Râkshasas, that reside there for two months in their turn, are called the Sthânâbhimânîs (the occupants of the place for the time). Of these, the twelve Devas (six couples for six seasons) lend their fiery lustre to the Sun. The Ṛiṣis adore Him by reciting pleasant hymns of praise ; the Gandharvas and the Apsarâs show their devotion by their singing and dancing.—25-26.
