svarbhānostu yathāṣṭāśvāḥ kṛṣṇā vai vātaraṃhasaḥ
rathaṃ tamomayaṃ tasya vahanti sma sudaṃśitāḥ //
The dark coloured chariot of Râhu is drawn by 8 swift horses of smoke-colour. The horses move as swift as wind, and they are well covered. He dwells close to the Sun, but He travels on in the dark fortnight towards the Moon; and returns to the Sun after that fortnight. The 8 horses of Ketu (the descending node) are slender and thin, of the colour of smoke; but they are hideous, very fiery and as swift as wind.—9-11.
