asmāllokādamuṃ lokaṃ tīrṇānāṃ sukṛtātmanām
tāraṇāttārakā hyetāḥ śuklatvāccaiva śuklikāḥ //

Because they cause the righteous who have crossed over from this world to that world / to cross over (tāraṇa), they are tārakās; and because of their whiteness (śuklatva), they are śuklikās.
