Ten valiant demons like Kâlanemi, etc., known as Mahârathas, began to fight. Kalanemi shot 60 arrows, Nimi shot 100 arrows, Mathana, 80 arrows, Jambhaka 70 arrows, Śambhu ten arrows and the rest of the demons a single arrow each, on Viṣṇu and with ten arrows they pierced Garuḍa. Viṣṇu, the destroyer of the Dānavas, thinking of the impetuosity of the demons, pierced every one of them with six arrows. He drew again His bow and pierced Kâlanemi with three arrows.—223-226.
