*hiraṇyakaśipuruvāca
na devāsuragandharvā na yakṣoragarākṣasāḥ
na mānuṣāḥ piśācā vā hanyurmāṃ devasattama //
Hiraṇyakaśyapu spoke:—O best of the Devas! Make me invulnerable from the Devas, demons, Gandharvas, Yakṣas, Serpents, Râkṣasas, men, Piśâchas. The curses of the Ṛiṣis also may not affect me. If you are pleased with me, then also grant me O, Lord! the boon so that I may not die of any weapon, missile, rocks, trees, wet and dry things. I may also not die during the day or night. Let me be (like) the Sun and the Moon and perform the functions of the wind, fire, water, sky, stars, the ten directions. May I be Anger, Cupid, Indra, Varuṇa, Yama, Dhanapati, Kuvera, Yakṣa, Kiṁpuruṣa.—11-15
