dattamārādhayāmāsa kārtavīryo 'trisambhavam
tasmai dattā varāstena catvāraḥ puruṣottama //
Arjuna, who was the Lord of seven continents through his thousand arms, and the son of Kritavîrya, practised difficult penances for ten centuries and worshipped Datta, the son of Atri, who, becoming pleased, granted him four boons.—13-15.
