*nārada uvāca
bhagavandevadeveśa brahmaviṣṇvindranāyaka
śrīmadārogyarūpāyur bhāgyasaubhāgyasampadā
saṃyuktastava viṣṇorvā pumānbhaktaḥ kathaṃ bhavet //

The Sage Nârada said :—“O Adorable God of gods ! O Ruler of Brahmâ, Viṣṇu and Indra ! pray tell me how one may become your devotee or a devotee of Viṣṇu and so attain wealth, life, health, beauty, luck, and prosperity ? Pray also tell me which Vrata is the giver of gradual emancipation to married women or widows, possessing all good and auspicious qualities.”—4-5.
