tuṣitā nāma ye devāś cākṣuṣasyāntare manoḥ
vaivasvate 'ntare caite ādityā dvādaśa smṛtāḥ //
Devas called Tuṣita who flourished in the reign of Châkṣuṣa Manu, came to be known as Âdityas (Suns), owing to their having been born as the sons of Devas called glorious Kaśyapa from his wife, Aditi, during the reign of King Vaivasvata Manu. They were twelve in number, _viz._, Indra, Dhâtâ, Bhaga, Tvaṣṭâ, Mitra, Varuṇa, Yama, Vivasvâna, Savitâ, Puṣâ, Anśumâna, and Viṣṇu. These were the 12 Âdityas—the centre of rays.—3-5.
