*brahmovāca
varṇāśramāṇāṃ prabhavaḥ purāṇeṣu mayā śrutaḥ
sadācārasya bhagavan dharmaśāstraviniścayaḥ
paṇyastrīṇāṃ sadācāraṃ śrotumicchāmi tattvataḥ //

Brahmâ said:—Śiva! I have heard of the efficacy of Varṇa Âśrama as well as of good conduct, as prescribed by the Dharma Sâstras. I am now desirous of hearing the practice and conduct of public women.—1.
