Skandapurana 16.171

Īśvara said: / Then, O great goddess, one should go to the goddess Ekallavīrikā, / situated not very far to the south of Ekallavīra. (1)

Formerly, that famous Daśaratha, an ornament of the Solar dynasty, / came to the sacred field of Prabhāsa and performed exceedingly severe austerity. (2)

Installing a liṅga there, he propitiated Śaṅkara; / he prayed to the god for a son of immeasurable splendor. (3)

Then [the god] granted him a son, a god revered throughout the three worlds, / whose name was Rāma, whose fame was renowned across the three worlds, (4)

whom to this day the inhabitants of Bhūr, Bhuvas, and Svar, / all gods, Daityas, and asuras, and the great seers headed by Vālmīki, sing of here. (5)

By the power of that liṅga, great renown was attained by the king. / Whoever worships it according to rule on the full moon of the month of Kārttika / with offerings and the worship of lamps, he too becomes renowned. (6)

Thus ends the one hundred and seventy-first chapter, named “Description of the Māhātmya of Daśaratheśvara,” in the first [part], the Prabhāsakṣetramāhātmya, in the seventh [khaṇḍa], the Prabhāsakhaṇḍa, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa consisting of eighty-one thousand verses. (171)
