44. In connection with the māhātmya of the holy Rāmeśvara-liṅga, the acts of the blessed Rāmacandra are described: Therein, the blessed Rāmacandra, having built a causeway across the ocean, slain Rāvaṇa in battle in Laṅkā, and purified Sītā, stayed on Mount Gandhamādana on the shore of the southern ocean; then the sages led by Agastya arrived and offered praise to holy Rāma; then, on the advice of the sages to dispel the sin of killing a brahmin arising from the slaughter of Rāvaṇa, holy Rāma decided with the sages upon an auspicious moment to install a liṅga of holy Maheśvara and commanded Hanumat to bring a Śiva-liṅga from Kailāsa; seeing that Hanumat, who had gone to Kailāsa to fetch the Śiva-liṅga, was delayed in returning with the liṅga, and out of fear of letting the auspicious moment pass, holy Rāma, with the consent of the sages, installed and worshipped a Śiva-liṅga made of sand by Jānakī; then, holy Sadāśiva accompanied by Ambā, present within the liṅga, manifested from the midst of the liṅga and granted a boon to the blessed Rāmacandra; Rāmacandra installed Nandikeśvara in front of holy Rāmeśvara, and with the tip of his bow constructed a well named Koṭi-tīrtha for the ceremonial bath of Īśvara; the consecration of the liṅga. 82 1
