5.212.46

anyathā yo vadetpṛṣṭaḥ prāyāścittaṃ svacchanda taḥ ..
tasya pāpasya bhāgī syādyathā kartā tathaiva saḥ .. 46 ..

Whoever, being questioned, declares an expiation otherwise out of his own whim, / would become a sharer in that sin, just as the perpetrator himself.”
