yathā syurdevatā vyagrāstadā'smākamapi prabho. ..
kavyaṃ vinā bhavedeṣā daśā kaṣṭā sureśvara .. 54 ..
Just as the gods might become distraught, O Lord, so for us as well / without ancestral food, this miserable state would occur, O lord of the gods.
5.215.55
tasmātkuru prasādaṃ naḥ samemetaiḥ sureśvara ..
yathā syācchāśvatī tṛptiḥ svasthānasthāyināmapi.. .. 55 ..

na snātasyādhikāro'sti devānāṃ ca dvijātivat .. 59 ..
O lord of all gods, this is the Vedic revelation concerning the ancestors: / there is no authority [in rites] for one who has not bathed, nor for the gods as there is for the twice-born.
5.215.60
pīyūṣamapi tairdattaṃ tena naḥ syānna tṛptaye .. 6.216.60 ..
Even nectar given by them would therefore not lead to our satisfaction.
5.215.61
tasmānmānuṣadattairno yathā kavye prajāyate ..
svargasthānāṃ parā tṛptiḥ samametaistathā kuru .. 61 ..
Therefore, arrange it together with these so that through ancestral offerings given by mortals, / supreme satisfaction will arise for us who dwell in heaven.

yathāyathā yugānāṃ ca hrāsa eṣa bhaviṣyati ..
tathātathā janā duṣṭā bhaviṣyaṃtyanyabhaktikāḥ .. .. 64 ..
In whatever manner this decline of the yugas will occur, / in that very manner people will become wicked and devoted to other [gods].
5.215.65
na dāsyaṃti yathoktāni te kavyāni kathaṃcana ..
tataḥ kaṣṭatarā'vasthā pitṝṇāṃ saṃbhaviṣyati .. 65 ..

5.215.66
tasmādahaṃ kariṣyāmi sukhopāyaṃ śarīriṇām ..
yena santarpitā yūyaṃ parāṃ tṛptimavāpsyatha .. 66 ..
Therefore I will make an easy means for embodied beings / by which, you being propitiated, you will attain supreme satisfaction.

sarveṣāṃ syātparā tṛptiryāvanmāṃ pitaro'dhunā ..
tathā mātāmahānāṃ ca pakṣe nāstyatra saṃśayaḥ .. 68 ..
there will be supreme satisfaction for all of them up to me, O ancestors, now; / likewise, there is no doubt in this regard on the side of maternal grandfathers.
5.215.69
tribhiḥ santarpitāste'pi tarpitāḥ syurmamāvadhi ..
yuṣmākaṃ tṛptaye yaśca sukhopāyo bhaviṣyati .. 69 ..
Being propitiated through three [generations], they too would be propitiated right up to me. / And what the easy means for your satisfaction will be,
5.215.70
taṃ śṛṇudhvaṃ mahābhāgā gadato mama sāṃpratam ..
pitṝnannena yenaiva samuddiśya dvijottamān.. 6.216.70 ..
listen to that, O fortunate ones, as I now explain it: / with whatever food, dedicating it to the ancestors, [they will honor] the best of twice-born,
5.215.71
tarpayiṣyaṃti tenaiva piṇḍāndāsyaṃti bhaktitaḥ ..
tannāmnā tena vastṛptiḥ śāśvatī saṃbhaviṣyati .. 71 ..
they will satisfy [them] with that very [food] and offer rice balls with devotion; / through their names, eternal satisfaction will arise for you by that.
5.215.72
tasmādgacchata santuṣṭāḥ svāni sthānāni pūrvajāḥ .. 72 ..
Therefore depart, contented, to your own realms, O forebears!
5.215.73

vimānaiḥ sūryasaṃkāśairgatvā pārthivasattama .. 73 ..
Then, together with them, they returned to their own abodes, / traveling in aerial chariots resembling the sun, O best of kings.
5.215.74
atha saṃgacchatā rājankālena mahatā tataḥ ..
taccāpi na daduḥ śrāddhaṃ martyāstripuruṣaṃ ca yat .. 74 ..
Then, O king, as a long time passed after that, / mortals did not offer even that śrāddha for three generations.
5.215.75
nityaṃ pitṝnsamuddiśya bahavo'tra narādhipa ..
kavyabhāgānpunasteṣāṃ tathā pūrvaṃ yathā nṛpa .. 75 ..
O ruler of men, [neglecting] to regularly dedicate the portions of ancestral food / to the ancestors here, many [failed to do so] as before, O king.
