"Do not be angry, O best of dānavas! O daitya, I am not your enemy. / You were then driven away swiftly from the battlefield solely for your protection. / Charioteers and those versed in the treatises say, O lord of dānavas: / Chariot-warrior and charioteer are like husband and wife, devoted to one another. / A charioteer must be protected by the warrior from weapon-blows like a beloved wife; / and by him the chariot must be protected like a victory-bringing husband. / You were pierced by the enemy and trapped in the fight; / thinking, 'He may become incapacitated,' you were quickly taken away by me. / Having recovered and regained strength, armored again for combat, / you will conquer the foes in battle; it was only thus that you were carried away. / For those who retreat in due time and return armed in due time— / victory in battle is not hard to attain for those great-souled ones, O daitya!
