And he who gives a water-cow, the fruit of his gift is great: / having set up an auspicious water-booth, a pond, or a fully abundant well, / having filled water-pitchers completely, adorned them with fragrant unguents and garlands / and diverse kinds of flowers, and having worshipped the best of brahmins, / thoroughly satisfied with food and drink, he should give them vessels of sesame seeds; / he should give an abundant priestly gift, and then make them touch it [saying]: / 'May the waters, auspicious and gentle, satisfy my ancestors; / may my ancestors always go where they will and grant all desires.' / Having thus given that cow and then bought it back, / he should maintain that water-booth, O goddess, which secures the world of Brahmā. / Having given vessels of sesame seeds, a pair of new garments, / the presence of gold, and diverse kinds of fruits, / he should then, pure and having taken a ritual ablution, give according to rule to the brahmins. / […] / 'Clarified butter the cows bring forth; clarified butter is established in the earth; / clarified butter is fire and the gods; may clarified butter be bestowed upon me.' / Giving according to this rule, he reaches the world of Brahmā. / The man who gives a cow along with her calf and a bronze milking pail, / with golden horns, silver hooves, draped in fine silk and linen, / furnished with a bed and covering, endowed with many flowers and fruits, / having gratified the brahmins, adorned with fragrant unguents and garlands— / at the time of the gift, the gods dwell within her limbs: / Brahmā resides on her head, Śakra rests upon her flank, / the moon and the sun are in her eyes, and the wind is established in her nostrils.
